Sports Massage
Sports massage is used to release and reduce tension in muscles, improve circulation, encourage the removal of waste products and relax the body & mind.
It helps promote recovery and reduces the chance of muscle injury.
Who Can Benefit From Sports Massage?
- Anyone and everyone!
- A competitor looking to improve your performance and achieve PB,
- New to sports and want to relax your aching muscles,
- Returning from an injury and keen to get going again,

When should I have a sports massage?
Sports massage can be effective during preparation, training, competition and recovery, though the emphasis of the massage will vary for each stage.
- Routine maintenance massage: A regular massage treatment programme which can concentrate on particular muscle groups to help to maintain or improve the range of movement and flexibility; can target any areas to prevent injuries; Stretches and exercises to help maintain the benefits between each massage.
- Pre & Post Event: Massage before and after an event can aid performance and assist recovery. Pre-event massage helps to boost circulation and reduce muscle tension, whilst also assisting with mental preparation. Post-event massage can enhances recovery by reducing muscle spasms and metabolic build-up.
- Rehabilitation: Following injury, sports massage can aid in the rehabilitation process, speed healing and reduce discomfort, helping you to return to sport after injury.
Deep Pressure for Emotional Regulation
Now formally taking bookings for Emotional Regulation Massage
This deep pressure treatment is suitable for anyone, of any age.
With over 15 years teaching experience, in a SEN/ SEBD setting, I am both familiar and comfortable working with children and young people from all backgrounds, presentations and needs.
Blending my experience as a SEN teacher and as a Sports Massage Therapist, I can recommend that this therapy has particular benefits for;
- young people and teenagers,
- for those adversely affected by lockdown and isolation,
- for anyone experiencing elements of ASD, ADHD or similar SEN,
- people with difficulty processing and/or regulating experiences and emotions,
- young people with trauma or difficulties in social situation.
Every client will be treated with a personal and individual plan to suit their comfort and needs. Treatment plans are as individual as your child or teenager is (not all massage techniques are for everyone) and you will both have input into how each session will progress.
Current CP advice is paramount. Therefore, I do require an appropriate adult is present for every session.
Sessions may take a blended approach of massage therapy and play.

Cryotherapy & Thermotherapy
(Ice and Heat therapies) Both cryotherapy and thermotherapy can be effective in reducing pain and improve immunity.
Ice massages allows you to place gentle pressure on the area of pain and inflammation. This reduces pain and restricts blood flow to reduce swelling, while the gentle rotating movement helps mobilize the soft tissue in the same way as a regular massage
Hot massage such as Hot stones, help to relieve muscle tension and pain and can assist in preparing the muscles for other deep pressure massage treatments.
At Recovery Room Therapies, cryotherapy and thermotherapy are sometimes used together to achieve the best results. Cryotherapy can help in the first stages, while thermotherapy can help in the final stages of fighting pain and injury.

KT Taping
Is used to;

K-tape was originally developed as a way to enhance athletic performance.
KT Tape be used to prevent or treat many common muscle and joint related injuries including: sprains, muscle strains, subluxations, and tendonitis, providing support and pain relief before, during, and/or after an activity.
At Recovery Room Therapies, I may use KT Tape to provide support before an event, or after a sports massage treatment to maximise your recovery and comfort.
Muscle Testing
Special tests can be used to rule in or out whether you may have certain musculoskeletal problems, it can also provide indicators for injury which can guide the treatment plan we create for your recovery or signpost you to a medical practitioner if necessary.
Using your muscles, we can discover what “weakens” or “strengthens” your body. From a holistic therapy perspective, this can tap into the subconscious mind which allows us to answer questions about our physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
IASTM

From the Eastern tradition Gua Sha, IASTM uses targeted pressure to soft tissues to re-mould scar tissue, allowing the muscle to move more freely and preventing the pain that is associated with that tension.
